We are delighted to announce an inaugural AGS Bluesky social media feed “takeover” and to invite expressions of interest from colleagues who would like to take part.
What is a social media feed “takeover”?
A social media feed takeover is a short, time-limited series of posts prepared by a guest contributor and shared through an organisation’s social media account or feed. In this case, contributors will prepare posts relating to their research, teaching, public engagement, events, or other work in German Studies to be shared on the AGS Bluesky feed.
What’s the point?
The takeovers serve four strategic aims:
- to showcase research in progress;
- to increase the visibility of members’ work, both within the association and to other interested parties (i.e. our Bluesky followers);
- to cultivate Bluesky as an additional meeting place for the association beyond the annual conference, which, as recent surveys have shown, cannot always be attended by the full breadth of the association’s membership;
- to drive engagement with the AGS Bluesky presence.
What will the takeovers consist of?
- Takeovers should introduce a current or recently completed research project, focusing on its key research questions, conceptual framework, corpus, methods and findings. They may also highlight or document research outputs and/or events related to the project.
- Each takeover will consist of a series of five mini-threads of up to three posts.
- One mini-thread will be published per day across a designated working week (Mon-Fri).
- Each post should not exceed 300 characters (the standard Bluesky post limit) and should be written for a non-specialist audience.
- Contributors may include up to one image per post. An image accompanying the first post is essential. All others are optional. (Alt text should be supplied for all images.)
How will the takeovers work?
- Contributors will submit their content in advance, which will then be curated and scheduled by the association’s Publicity Officer.
- Contributors will not be given access to the association’s Bluesky account.
- Contributors are encouraged to have a Bluesky presence and field any questions directly during and after publication week.
How can I get involved?
- Interested members are invited to send a brief expression of interest to by Monday, 29th June 2026.
- Expressions of interest should include a short description of the proposed project (max. 200 words) and a sketch of what the contributor would like to share (max. 200 words).
- The takeover series will be open to all members of the association.
- The schedule for publishing the posts is negotiable and will be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch ().
